What is Phlebotomy?


The question which gets asked by quite a number of people not belonging to the health care industry is that, “What actually is Phlebotomy?” 



Well Phlebotomy is an ancient medical practice which involves drawing blood in a large amount in order to cure person from a disease or illness. This procedure in the past was also known as blood letting.

In today’s world, the medical industry is growing yet constantly and this term blood letting is now known as Phlebotomy. These procedures of Phlebotomy involve art of drawing the blood from a patient and later sending it to laboratories for further testing.

Most of patient’s feel comfortable to have these procedures of phlebotomy preformed by nurses or doctors. But now more and more people are becoming trained and specialized in Phlebotomy. Thus a phlebotomist is a person belonging to the health care industry who is trained for drawing blood from patients.
